Transcendence comes from the Latin prefix trans-, meaning "beyond," and the word scandare, meaning "to climb." When you achieve transcendence, you have gone beyond ordinary limitations, rising up to the next level. That is what this piece is for me.
Consciously pushing beyond conventional uses of the media, in ways I had never done before, resulted in this ephemeral, disintegrating and distressed material of the skirt.
Seen beneath that layer is original, turn of the century, hand written music (dated 1906). The whole feel of this piece is other worldly, spiritual and Transcends beyond the limits of material existence
38” X 48” X 4 7/8” Framed hand batiked papers, bees wax, handwritten letters, hand written music, acrylic sculpting polymer, fibreglass, resins, iridescent powders, inks, acrylic paints, old bits of jewellery, wire, embroidery floss.
Framed in plexiglass shadow box. Do not hang in direct light.
